Welcome/Bienvenido, this course has been designed to provide you with basic communication skills in the Spanish Language as well as an introduction to Spanish speaking cultures. Following are some directives that will help you take advantage of your time during this school year.
Objectives:
Upon the successful completion of this course students will:
1. Be able to give information about themselves and others in Spanish (i.e. name, age, interests, family, etc.)
2. Request information and ask simple questions.
3. Be familiar with useful phrases, numbers, colors, weather.
4. Be able to conjugate frequently used verbs in the present as well as the past tense.
5. Become familiar with the culture and customs of at least five Spanish Speaking countries.
6. Learn phrases and vocabulary that will serve as a basis for Spanish II.
Course Outline:
Culture: Las familias, Rivalidad en el futbol. Countries of Study: Ecuador and Mexico. Assignments: Oral presentation about our favorite activities, a poster with information about Mexico. Oral and written tests and quizzes will relate to vocabulary studied.
Textbook: Descubre 1 / Lengua y cultura del mundo hispánico
Vocabulary and grammar information sheets.
Vocabulary and grammar practice exercises.
Suggested Materials:
1. Loose leaf notebook.
2. Sharpened Pencil/Pen.
Class Rules
1. Homework must be handed in complete and on time (Make –up: All work missed due to absence must be made up at the initiative of the student within two weeks of the student’s return to class. If the make-up work is not completed in the time required, a failing grade for the marking period will be given for assignments that were not completed which may result on a failing grade for the marking period.)
2. Students will be respectful to teacher and to one another.
3. Only one student may go to the restroom at one time.
4. All excess paper and garbage will be put in the garbage receptacle.
5. Desks must remain in their place and without graffiti.
